Candidate Mallat received on the evening of Feb. 21 in his offices representatives from the Embassy of the Islamic Iranian Republic – headed by the Chief of Mission lawyer Hamid Rida Zahqani - for an extended meeting. Mallat expressed his appreciation and regard for the Iranian initiative, offering a brief overview of the presidential program to his guests and discussing with Mr Zahqani Iran's contribution to strengthening Lebanese national unity and the delicate transition Lebanon is undergoing in the region.

Matters of human rights and Islamic law were also discussed, in which the Iranian Chief of Mission is an expert, in the light of Middle Eastern turbulences and the pacific and constitutional ways available to resolve the grave outstanding issues in Lebanon and in the region. Mallat resolved to pursue the matter with Amb. Zahqani's good offices in Lebanon and internationally.
